1. Press the [GLOBAL] button.
2. Press the Down [CURSOR] button until the Parameter select LED is on the same line as “Protect”. The display will show “ON”.
3. Rotate the Data Dial to turn Protect to “OFF”. Follow the same procedure to turn it ON.
Q. How do I Save a Pattern?
1. First make sure that Memory Protect is OFF for the pattern you would like to save.
2. Press the [PATTERN] button.
3. Press the [WRITE] button. The button will blink, the display will blink to indicate the pattern number.
4. Rotate the Data Dial to select the location you would like to save your new pattern.
5. Press the [WRITE] button again.
Q. How do I Erase a Pattern?
1. Press the [PART] button to select the part you would like to erase.
2. If you would like to only erase part of a pattern, then first press the [PLAY] button to start playback.
3. During playback hold down the [SHIFT] button and press the [REC] button. The pattern will erase as long as you hold down these buttons.
4. To clear all the data in a part, press the [STOP / CANCEL] button to stop playback.
5. Press the [PART] button to select the part you would like to erase.
6. Hold down the [SHIFT] button and press the [STEP 12 (CLEAR PART)] button. The button will blink.
7. Press the [STEP 12 (CLEAR PART)] button once again to clear the data.
Q. What is a Pattern Set and how do I use it?
A Pattern Set is a function that allows you to have your favorite patterns assigned to each of the 16 Step keys.
1. Press the [PLAY] button to start playback of a pattern.
2. Press and hold the [PATTERN SET] button.
3. Now press one of the 16 Step keys. The pattern that is assigned to that key will flash on the display. After the first pattern has played through a full cycle it will then start playing the next selected pattern.
4. If you hold down the [SHIFT] button and press the [PATTERN SET] button the Pattern Set function will be held. This will allow you to quickly select patterns while you are tweaking the Synth Edit knobs.
5. To undo the Hold function simply press the [PATTERN SET] button again.

1. Press the [GLOBAL] button.

“r-0”: Metronome will sound only when recording.
“r-1”: Metronome will sound only when recording with a one measure count before recording begins.
“r-2”: Metronome will sound only when recording with a two measure count before recording begins.
“on”: Metronome will sound during recording and playback. There will be no count before recording begins.

4. Rotate the Data Dial to select “Ext”. This will sync the ER-1’s MIDI Clock to that of the external MIDI device.

Q. What is a Motion Sequence and how do I use it?
A Motion Sequence allows you to record movements of any one of the parameters of the Synthesizer sections. Each part can have its own Motion Sequence. To create a Motion Sequence follow this procedure:
1. Select the Pattern you would like to use.
2. Press the [PART] button to select the part you would like to create the Motion Sequence for.
3. Press the [MOTION SEQ] button repeatedly to select either Smooth or Trig Hold.
4. Press the [REC] button. The button will light and the [PLAY] button will begin to flash.
5. Press the [PLAY] to begin recording.
6. Move the desired Synth knob to create various changes.
7. After the pattern has completed one cycle the [REC] button will go dark, and you will return to Play mode where you can listen to the changes you have made.
8. Press the [STOP / CANCEL] button to stop playback.
9. Follow the Save Pattern procedure to save any changes you have made.
Q. How do I connect the ER-1 with an Audio Source, such as a CD player?
1. Plug an Audio source such as a CD player into the AUDIO IN jack of the ER-1.
2. Adjust the output of the connected device so that the Peak LED lights only at the maximum levels.
3. Select the pattern you would like to use.
4. Press the [GLOBAL] button .
5. Press the Down or Up [CURSOR] button until the Parameter select LED is on the same line as “Input Gain 1”.
6. Rotate the Data Dial to adjust the input volume to create a balance with the volume of the other parts.
7. Adjust the Input Gain 2 in the same way.
8. Press the [PLAY] button to hear the results.
Q. How do I Restore the ER-1 back to its Factory Preset condition?
1. Save any data you want to keep to an external MIDI device, because this procedure will erase it.
2. Press the [SOLO] button and the [WRITE] button while turning the ER-1 on.
3. The display will read ‘PLd”, and the [PLAY] button will blink.
4. Press the [PLAY] button to restore the factory preset data. The procedure will take about 15 seconds to complete.
